This Saturday at 1pm on the 2nd floor of the
sub we will be Cube Drafting, specifically drafting Tucker W Hunter's
cube. The event will cost only 6 dollars (this pays for entry and prize
packs). This is a phantom draft, meaning YOU DO NOT KEEP
THE CARDS YOU DRAFT. There is only a limited number of cards in the
cube so only the FIRST 10 PEOPLE WHO COME TO THE EVENT WILL BE ABLE TO
DRAFT!! For a complete list of the cards in his cube follow this link:

Legacy Details
This Saturday will be our semester Legacy tournament. Legacy decks are horrifically expensive (over $2000 sometimes), so for this tournament you can use any number of printed proxies. Let us know if you need any help with how to do that.
In case you've forgotten, Legacy is the format where most old cards are allowed, but stuff is banned if it's too broken. The complete banlist is here: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=judge/resources/sfrlegacy
You're obviously welcome to play any legal deck you can come up with, but if you want some ideas of where to start, there's a huge collection of tournament decks sorted by archetype at http://www.mtgdecks.net/formats/view/Legacy.
Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll see you on Saturday at 1.

Build You Own Standard Final Stuff
In case you missed the e-mail, here's the final banlist for this weekend's Build Your Own Standard. We've built it from cards that Wizards has banned in various formats at one point or another, with some judgment calls.
Again, the full details of the format are here, and let me know if you have any questions.
Note that some of these cards might be in sets you can't choose for the tournament (say, Alpha). Just because a card is on here doesn't mean its set is legal.

No Event Tomorrow + Build Your Own Standard
So yeah, since everyone is probably gone anyway we're not going to have an event tomorrow. That will give you more time to plan for our awesome event next week...Build Your Own Standard!
You probably saw Chris's e-mail about it by now, but the basic idea is that your deck will be built from the cards of two Magic blocks and one core set, just like a normal Standard deck. The catch of course is that you get to choose which blocks you use. My deck last time, for example, was Ice Age/M11/Time Spiral, and it was a blast to play.
Since nobody wants to buy old cards just for one event, we're allowing an unlimited number of proxies in these decks. If you need help with proxies just let one of us know.
Here are a complete list of core sets and a complete list of blocks and the sets in them. Note that Lorwyn-Shadowmoor counts as one block. Any set that's not on these lists (say, Legends) is not in a block and can't be chosen.
We're also going to ban Alpha, Beta, Revised, Unlimited, and Fourth Edition from being chosen as your core set. The cards in them are generally either useless or crazy broken.
There will also be a specific list of banned cards. We're still finalizing it (trying to allow options while stopping the worst stuff is hard), but for now use the combined Modern, Legacy, and Block Constructed lists as a guideline.
Let me know if you have any questions or if we missed anything. Happy brewing!

Gatecrash Game Day
Tomorrow the 23rd is Gatecrash Game Day. Game Day is a day of Standard tournaments sponsored by Wizards after every set release. You'll get a full-art Zameck Guildmage for attending, and a foil promo Firemane Avenger for making the Top 8. I'll be going to Dogs' tournament at 3pm; the other shops should be running tourneys too if you'd rather go there. As always, contact us if you need a ride.

Reject Rare Draft
Do you like drafting rares? What if you could draft nothing but rares? This weekend, you can. 1pm this Saturday the 9th, on the 2nd floor of the Sub. See full details here: http://fitssffmagic.blogspot.com/2013/01/next-two-events.html

Next Two Events
This Saturday the 2nd at 1pm will be the first ever FITSSFF Gatecrash draft! Note the location change: 4th floor of Crawford (the SUB was busy). We'd like to make this a huge event, so bring your friends! If you know people who you think might like to learn Magic, tell them to come at 12 noon and we'll teach them the basics.
The next weekend, February 9, will be an event we've never tried before. There are some important guidelines, so please read all of this.
You know all of those rares in your binder that nobody will ever trade for and you'll never use in a deck? What if there was some use for them besides emergency firestarters? Well, now there is. Introducing...the Reject Rare Draft!
Here's how it works. Each person brings 45 rares that they don't mind getting rid of. We shuffle everyone's cards together, and then deal them out into "packs" of 15 cards. Each person gets three "packs" and we sit down, draft decks, and play games like normal. Except it won't be normal, because we'll have all of the pwerful and/or weird effects of rares without effects that are normally commons -- Rampant Growth-type things for example. It will probably be one of the stranger formats you've ever played.
If you don't have 45 rares to bring, I can sell you 45 of mine for $5 and I'm sure other players would be happy to do the same.
You'll need to follow some guidelines when choosing your rares; one Vizzerdrix is fine but somebody bringing 45 Vizzerdrixes would make every game the same, which is the opposite of what we want. So:
1. You keep the cards you draft, which means that other people will be keeping most of your cards. Make sure you don't mind losing them.
2. It's a Reject RARE Draft, so rares and mythic rares only. I recommend against bringing cards that have changed from rare to uncommon like Serra Angel or Jayemdae Tome.
3. No duplicate cards please.
4. We'll be using the Vintage banned list. You can find the full list here, but basically the only things that are banned are silver-bordered cards and cards that say "ante" on them.
5. Try to balance the number of cards of each color. It doesn't have to be exact, but don't bring, say, 30 white cards.
6. This is less important, but the draft will be more interesting if you bring a good mix of card types instead of 30 enchantments or something.
Let me know if you have any questions or if I missed anything. See you there!
